The Smell of Fall is in the Air!

The sweet smell of fall is in the air. From the crisp falling leaves to the swirl of smoke from the bonfire. I love everything about this fall. In years past something about fall caused anxiety to take root in my chest, but not this year! I'm looking forward to comfy sweaters, scarves, and boots!

But most of all this year I'm looking forward to my Craft show schedule!
I will be posting here with news on the shows I travel to. I will try to take lot of pics and update more frequently.

I have a ton of great gifts for the holidays, including my alphabet photography, music boxes, ornaments, and dessert pedestals.  Make sure to check back often. You can always find my things in my Etsy Shop and in Gifted Hands Gift Shop in Wexford, Pa.

I hope to find time to enjoy this fall, but traveling, making things I love, and being out in the fresh fall air with my family (miss you Emily) are the things I enjoy most!

Chili with the Works

Come on out to Chili with the Works this Saturday from 2 - 8pm. There will be chili tasting, drinks, live entertainment, a kids corner and I Made It Marketplace for shopping. It all happens at Southside Works in the Burgh!
I will be there with 40 other fantastic artisans selling our wares. I will have my Alphabet Photography Prints from the Burgh and my Precious Pedestals for sale. Here's a little sneak peek of new prints I will be bringing with me to the event.

I have been asked numerous times for these prints at other shows. So I guess this will be the unveil :)
They will make a great gift for dad for Father's Day! You never know I may even come up with something else by then for Dad!! You'll just have to come see.  Look for me inside 428 S. 27th Street (near REI and across from Cheescake Factory), hope to see you Saturday!

The People We Touch...

I was reminded today about the fact that our items that we make "land" in someone else's life. Do we always think about that? I know I don't and was glad to be reminded. I had someone buy one of my pedestals today as a housewarming gift for a friend who found the courage to leave an abusive situation and start over ( with two young children).
She reminded me that praying while making my items may help to bring healing to a person who desperately needs it. I will be doing that from now on. After briefly hearing this story that brought tears to my eyes, I realized my self-centeredness on wanting to "sell" my items. While it is important to sell (gotta pay the bills) I also want my work to be a labor of love. In that spirit I will be donating 10% off all of my online sales for the month of April to the two charities I have linked to at the bottom of this post. I have been through hard times and I know what it is like to struggle. I was reminded today of the life I left behind! I live a very blessed life today and just needed to pass the reminder on to all of us who love what we do! You never know who's life you may be blessing! Here are just a few shops on Etsy who support survivors of domestic abuse in some way or another. Thank You!

V.I.P. Night at Gifted Hands Gift Shop

It was V.I.P. night at Gifted Hands Gift Shop the other night.

My friend Diana and her hubby are heading out on a missions trip to China next week. The entire store was 10% off to encourage friends and family to shop. All of Diana's sales went to fund her missions trip to China. She sells beautiful handmade baby slings, jewelry and home decor.

If your in the area and have a chance to stop into the store you'll be glad you did. Shelley (the owner) has done a great job with the shop. It is more like a boutique. You will find great gifts and certainly something for yourself!

Here's a few more pics of what the shop looked like the other night!

Good luck Diana and thanks to everyone who came out the other night!

Alphabet Photography

Just a quick post today. I finally got all of my letters listed in my Etsy shop! Yea! It was alot of long days editing and listing, but so worth it! I think I might have creative exhaustion however I doubt it. I can't imagine going through a day without creating something. It's funny because I went so long without being creative. You see I grew up crafting. Ya know beading soaps with the little pins and beads for the bathroom, and don't forget the macrame plant hangers. I think I got really courageous when I was tenish and tried to macrame a hanging table. I was around crafts the whole time I was growing up. My mom and my grandfather owned a little craft store in Mt. Washington and I spent alot of time there with them. When I became a teenager I just stopped creating and didn't get back to it until about two years ago. :(  Take it from me life is better when your creating! Here's a few pics of letters to inspire you to create.

So don't forget to try to create something everyday!

Brick and Mortar

Okay so lately I've got the art and craft show fever. I don't know why maybe it's all the snow we've had this winter. As I write this we just got another 6 inches of snow. I thought it was supposed to be spring? I'm an outdoor person and can't wait to get out there!

With all of that said, I've been searching for some good shows. Shows that are well attended, advertised, and organized well. It's hard to know which ones fit that criteria based on a small portion of internet information. I have looked for past show vendor lists for a few that I'm interested in, but for some I can't find a thing.... it's frustrating to say the least. I am interested in Discover Presque Isle Days and think I am just going to take the leap. It's beautiful there in the summer and we'll camp. Is there anything better than that?

I applied to Handmade Arcade, but sadly :( was not accepted. I was really hoping to get in with my Letter Photography, since right now I am promoting my Pittsburgh Series of letters. But, alas my hometown didn't accept me. It's ok they did send a very nice email stating that they had an overwhelming number of applications and only had 100 vendor spots. They also reminded me to reapply, which I will do. I'm a steel town girl born and breed. It's great to know that the DIY movement is alive and well in Pittsburgh, Pa. Don't forget to visit the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on Saturday April 16, 2011 for the Handmade Arcade!

I'm sure your wondering why I named this post Brick and Mortar if I've been talking about getting out to some shows... Well, I ran across some photos I recently took of some of my designs in the Gifted Hands Gift Shop where I have my things and just thought I would share those with you. I would still like to spotlight Artisans that share the shop, so look for that with great photos in the future! So without further ado..... the photos.....

If anyone knows of any great shows to do please leave me a comment in the comment section....

Have a Great Day!

Precious Pedestals

I've been busy working on some new prints for Mother's day and Father's day. I will be releasing them soon. In the meantime I have also been working on a few new pedestals. I realized that I began the blog with a blog about my Letter Photography and not alot about my Precious Pedestals. I love making them, but even more so I love the search for the materials that I use to make them. I scour second hand stores for plates, candlesticks, glasses, and bowls. Anything I can use that is different. I hit the jackpot the other day with my daughter finding two beautiful milk glass pieces. I made a pedestal out of it last week.

I think I have the most fun when I find unusual plates or bases. When I do, I can't wait to get them put together and it seems customers can't wait to buy them :).

My pedestals have been used for dessert pedestals, fruit bowls, jewelry holders, holders for fancy soaps in the bathroom, business card holders and the list continues. They look beautiful in your home and they make a great gift for that someone who seems to have everything.

I use some new and some used items. I love the fact that I can make these out of upcycled items that I find in my travels, so the next time your out keep your eyes open for discarded treasures. You never know what they can be used for!
Here are a few more pics of new Precious Pedestals. Tell me what you think?
